The Data Dashboard

Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety

As of September 2, 2025, WADEPS is available for law enforcement agencies across the state of Washington to begin sharing reportable use-of-force incident data.

Note: Agencies have up to 30 days after the date of an incident to provide the data to WADEPS and the first CAD data is due to WADEPS in early October.

Introduction

Powered by leading data analytics technology, the WADEPS dashboard will combine data from multiple sources to create visualizations centered on the use of force by officers and contextualized with data about community and agency characteristics and total police incidents.

Dashboard visitors will be able to create and review data stories about individual agencies, selected agencies, or all agencies in the state, and/or by regions (city, county, or state), such as:

About the Dashboard

The WADEPS data dashboard is an incident-based rate-of-force visualization tool which requires data about use-of-force incidents AND all calls for service to provide useful and meaningful analysis.

What is a “use-of-force rate”?
The number of reportable use-of-force incidents divided by the number of calls for service, usually displayed as a percentage. For example, 10 uses of force divided by 1,000 calls for service = a 1% rate of force.

* Watch a brief video about rates vs counts.

Four tabs will provide four different ways to look at data provided to WADEPS by law enforcement agencies in Washington state.

Combines required use-of-force incident data with incident-based computer-aided dispatch (CAD) data for all calls for service. Default view is statewide. Enables users to draw insights by county, city, or agency over a selected time frame.

Data blocks include:
Currently available with contextual data only.

In October, this tab will feature an in-depth view of use-of-force incident data, CAD data for all calls for service, and contextual data (such as socio-economic demographics and agency characteristics).

Using drop-down controls above two side-by-side maps, users can select from four different views: Rate of Force by County, Rate of Force by City, Raw Count by County, and Raw County by City.

Left-side map: Rate of Force data

Right-side map: Contextual data
A single table containing available data for the filters selected by the user. This view provides the user with the most options for filtering data by agency, incident type, participants, etc.

The top half is a county-based heat map display of agencies reporting UOF incident data as of the date selected.

The data table below the map contains additional participation information (percentage of officers who have completed training, data use agreement status, and other operational details).

What is currently visible?
* The contextual data layer includes census information for the state. Federal crime statistics and agency characteristics data will be visible shortly.

Beginning October 8, 2025:
* The first statewide use-of-force rates. (Remember, agencies have 30 days from the date of an incident to provide the data to WADEPS.)
* The first monthly data on all call for service (CAD data) for calculating rates.
* Agency participation statistics.

Potential Data Lag

The data displayed and available for download will be the most accurate in the WADEPS system at the time and is subject to change.

Each agency may adhere to its own data upload cycle within the mandatory reporting window. As a result, there may be instances of data lag. For example, a reportable use of force occurring on March 1 may not appear for several weeks. Not only do agencies have 30 days to submit the required incident data to WADEPS, some additional time may be required for the verification process within the WADEPS Reporting Tool.
